7. Romeo and Juliet & Endless Love

About the book:

In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families disrupts the city of Verona and causes tragic results for Romeo and Juliet. This song is relates to the couple Romeo and Juliet. We can imagine Lionel Richie and Diana Ross as being moderns Romeo and Juliet, declaring their love to each other. It is a very popular and romantic song, which can be related to the William Shakespeare's work, because of the strong feeling that unites the main characters in the book and in the song.

Activity in class:

The teacher can introduce the book to the students, telling them the story, using adapted versions of the work and showing the movie. Then, the teacher would ask the students to compare the love between Romeo and Juliet to the love between the characters of the song, and how one can be related to the other. If some of the students are conversant to computer's movies edition softwares, they can produce a videoclip of the song using images of Romeo and Juliet's movies produced along the years.
